Amount of ethanol in the original volume = 5% of 20 gallons of gasohol = 1 gallon.

19 = (9/10)x
x = 190/9.
Thus, the amount of ethanol added = new volume - original volume = 190/9 - 20 = 190/9 - 180/9 = 10/9.
