Right triangle measurement

I'm curious to know if a problem like the one below will be on the GMAT. I ask because it seems to be dealing with a tangent angle. In other words are we expected to know how to multiply tangent degrees° ?


A man is climbing a mountain, as shown in the diagram. The slope of the mountain is 35°. What is his change in elevation, represented as x, when his horizontal distance from the starting point is 1,000 feet?

Hi!

Nope you dont need to worry about such problems on the GMAT. Where did u get this question from? Its definitely not from the OG'S -11 or 12.
Most questions on the gmat that deal with Right traingles test your ability to apply the pythagoras theorem.

The question came from Kaplan's new book GMAT math foundations.
