Married People in City

by harsh.champ » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:20 pm
Twenty five percent of the population of a city is married. The total number of people who work is
80 percent of the married population and 20 percent of the working males in the city are unmarried.
Find the number of working females as a percentage of the unmarried population of the city.

A: Forty five percent of the population are females and sixty percent of the females are not married.
B: The number of working males is two percent of the number of unmarried males.

BTW your catchline is quite funny Gym/GMAT/Girl - Be serious

The ans. is as follows:-

0.25P = Married
=>0.75P = Unmarried
0.8 x 0.25P (0.2P)= People who work
=>0.8P = People who dont work
Let the no. of working males and females be WM and WF (0.2P-M) respectively.Then, 0.2xWM = Unmarried
(1):-0.45P = Females ,0.6 x 0.45P(0.27P) = Females not married [Insufficient]
(2):-WM = 0.02(Unmarried Males)
