On a scale that measures the intensity of a certain
phenomenon, a reading of n + 1 corresponds to an
intensity that is 10 times the intensity corresponding
to a reading of n. On that scale, the intensity
corresponding to a reading of 8 is how many times
as great as the intensity corresponding to a reading
of 3 ?
(A) 5
(B) 50
(C) 105
(D) 510
(E) 810 - 310

options are like

A. 10
B. 50
C. 10 raise to 5
D. 5 raise to 10
E. 8 raise to 10 minus 3 raise to 10

(n + 1) = 10 times of n = 10^2 times of (n - 1) = 10^3 times of (n - 2) = ...

Hence, 8 = 10^(8 - 3) times of 3 = 10^5 times of 3

Looking at the answer choices, I think proper representation of option C should be 10^5, which is the correct answer.

reading of n+1 ===> 10 times reading of n

reading of 8 ===> 10*(reading of 7)
===> 10*(10*(reading of 6))
===> 10*(10*(10*(reading of 5)))
===> 10*(10*(10*(10*reading of 4))))
===> 10*(10*(10*(10*(10*(reading of 3)))))
===> (10 raise to 5)*(reading of 3)

Hence C is the correct option.
