calculate k

by shashank.ism » Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:47 pm
If x + r = 1, p + 1 = n, r + n = k, r = 8 and x + p + k = 30, the value of k is

a) 17
b) 22
c) 23
d) 15
e) 11

Now,r=8
So, x=1 - r = -7
Also, r + n = k => 8 + n = k =>8 + (p + 1 ) = k
So, p = k - 9
Putting value of p and k, x + p + k =30
=>-7 + (k - 9) + k = 30
So,
2k = 46 => k = 23 . (C)
IMO,C.

Hey shashank,
Can you please post the OA as I and deepthi are getting contradictory answers.
Mine is coming C while deepthi's B.
I guess my problem approach is correct.Plz check and correct if needed. :)

Also deepthi , can you check your substitution values? I think you left out on 8 + (p + 1 ) = k
and have got the following p = k - 7.

In my haste, I put the answer as 22 instead of 23 (C), I think Harsh your answer is also C ; can't confirm as for some reason, your answer seems to be blacked out.

According to the source OA is
(C) i.e. 23
and Deepthi has alaso corrected her answer so there is no confusion right now. Well it seems you were trying to solve faster than harsh .. but harsh is too quick ...and comes up with first answers..

For blackening thing the answers are kept in "spoiler" which blackens the answer. Whenever you mouseover the blackened thing you will get the answer. It's an HTML thing.
