If a rectangle measuring 4 inches by 12 inches is cut into 3 equal rectangles, as shown above, what is the perimeter, in inches, of each of the three new rectangles?

A. 16/3
B. 32/3
C. 16

Looking at the image we know the heights of each of the three rectangles. If we know the width of the equal-sized rectangles, we can get the perimeter.

Width of each rectangle = 12/3 = 4.

So, the perimeter, in inches, of each of the three new rectangles = 4*4 = 16 inches

Correct answer: C

Side of each new rectangle = 12/3 = 4
The order side is also 4, means it has become a square figure now.

Perimeter of square = 4 x side = 16. Hence, C.

Solution:

Each of the smaller new rectangles has dimensions 4 inches by 12/3 = 4 inches. Therefore, the perimeter of each of the new rectangles is 2 x 4 + 2 x 4 = 16.
