Inconsistent Practice Test Scores

by seoulb » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:03 am
I've been taking some practice exams...Veritasprep, 800score, and GMATprep over the past week and my scores are jumping all over the place. My test is in 3 days and its starting to worry me.

I was 640 with a 38 quant, 41 verbal on a Veritasprep test
then 660 with 40 quant, 41 verbal on a Veritasprep test,
then 710 wih 41 quant, 46 verbal on GMATprep.

I took another Veritasprep today and hit rock bottom. 550 with 37 quant and 28 verbal. Any clue what happened?

Anyone have any advice on how I can get higher scores more consistently? Is this a sign that I should be rescheduling my test?
(It is my first time).

Yeah, you used that Veritas CAT. That's what happened. I'm taking the Veritas course myself and wouldn't touch those CATs with a 6 foot long pole.

Practice GMATPrep and MGMAT CATs - they're the best CATs out there. Take the other GMATPrep and see where you're at.

This is also the reason why it's not recommended to take a CAT immediately before the real deal - it can shatter your confidence and put you in worse shape immediately before the exam.

I think your last test score is probably an analomy, because your score was increasing as you studied. Don't worry too much about it.

FWIW I think Princeton Review was most accurate after GMATPrep.

Pay the most attention to your GMATPrep tests.

Also, I've heard (from the CEO of my company, who's a lawyer and has actually verified this) that Veritas's tests are actually cobbled together from other company's tests - including GMATPrep and 800Score. (At least, they used to be - perhaps they've started making their own tests now.) So really take those with a BIG grain of salt.
