Like the immediate predecessor

by gmatdriller » Sun Oct 28, 2012 5:07 am
Like the immediate predecessor, the incumbent regime became the subject of unprecedented ridicule, the more so because it was the first time an elected government would be overthrown via a coup d'etat, and the entire members of the federal cabinet executed in public.

A. the more so because it was
B. more for its being
C. more for the reason that it was
D. the more so for the reason because it was
E. the reason of it being more so is that it was

I went for C, but I was wrong. OA is A
Explanations please...as the OA sounds somewhat odd.

From a local gmat SC book.
Well, am curious on the correct idiom.

Does the structure of the OA make any reasonable sense to you?
Am asking because there are no OEs.

Thanks.
