Applied with dismal GMAT score...

I appplied through the Consortium to Stern, Tepper, and Tuck...with a dismal GMAT score of 510! I know I can get AT LEAST 680 if I take it again in Feb. GPA 3.2 zero work experience. "Studied" for the GMAT in 2 weeks. Should I tell admissions tto wait on me better score?? :?

I think it all really depends on what's the minimum acceptance score for each univeristy. Maybe you should contact them and ask what was the average GMAT score that students got accepted with.

Also check if work experience is required or not for each university you applied at. Since you have no work experience and you believe you can score much higher on the GMAT, I'd most likely consider taking the GMAT exam again so that you score higher and have a greater chance at getting accepted!

i did some research for you and hopefully i got the right facts:

NYU Stern- Average 2007 GMAT: 700
Tepper School of Business - an average GMAT of 691
Tuck - GMAT. Average score. 710. Admitted-student range. 560–790

Also, some of them required full-time work experience!

I am unaware if these are the official facts (since I searched on google.com) but contact the administrators to make sure! :)

NYU's average GMAT score has shot up to 708 for class of 2010.

It is going to be difficult to compete with the current applicant pool given your GMAT score and lack of work experience. Most schools require at least two years of work experience unless you have a unique and compelling undergraduate history (founded a company, created a product, etc.) I would definitely suggest aiming for a higher GMAT to submit with your application.

I know someone who applied to Stern with a 570 (altho a 6.0 AWA) and 5 years of so-so work experience and got waitlisted, then rejected.

Definitely increase the score, and get a few years of solid experience under your belt.

I don't know the facts for the schools but I don't think they admitted anyone with such a low GMAT score for the class of 2010 to these schools. And with 0 work ex it will be nearly impossible with this year's competitive applicant pool.

Don't want to sound too negative, but for b-school apps it's good to stay realistic (will save u lots of time and money). Get a couple years of work ex under your belt and get your GMAT somewhat close to the schools' averages.

Wait.

Get more work experience. Raise your GMAT so that it has a 6 in front of it. Maybe get some more A's in business-related courses, although WE and GMAT are bigger problems for you.

Unfortunately, I have to echo what has been previously written. I am a student who is now in an Ivy league program and my roommate came straight from undergrad with no work experience. He interned at the White House and started his own successful company.

To be honest, you are just going up against HUGE ods. I would say DO NOT apply now. Work and get your GMAT score up to 700. If you are going to shell out lots of money for an MBA, the difference between a tier 2 and tier 1 is large.

Please take a look at the average GMAT scores and GPAs for tier 1 schools to get a sense of where you are at.
