how many seconds will it take for a car that is traveling at a constant rate of 45 miles per hour to travel a distance of 22 yards? (1mile=1160 yards)

where did you get this problem? something doesn't make sense to me.
1. you typed it wrong for sure or the book did. 1mile = 1760 yards, not 1160.

so it travels 45/60min*1/60sec = 45/(60*60) miles per second.

or 1760*45/(60*60) yards per second

which simplies to 22 yards per second. so the answer should be 1 sec.

correct me if I'm wrong...

No clue where you're getting these questions, but the conversion is again way off (or it's just a typo). 1 mile = 1760 yards.

So, here's our formula to solve:

t = d/r
t = (22/1760)/45

Of course, this will solve for time in hours. To convert hours to seconds, we multiply by 3600.

So:

t = 3600 * (22/1760)/45
t = 3600 * (22/1760*45)
t = 3600/1760 * 22/45 = (approx) 2/1*1/2 = 1

My calculations agree with hwiya's. What's the source of these oh so horrible questions?
