Equation divided by variables

by datonman » Wed Sep 23, 2015 4:41 pm
The question is as follows:

If x 'does not equal to' 0 and x - 2 - x squared divided by x which equals to y/x, then y =

-2 - 3x squared
X squared - 2
2x squared - 2
X - 2 - x squared
X - 2 + x squared

You probably aren't getting any responses because your question isn't well formatted. Use ≠ and ² next time so it's easier for us to read.

Anyway, I'm guessing your problem should read as follows:

x ≠ 0 and
((x - 2) - x²) / x = y/x

?

If so, here's how to solve:

((x - 2) - x²) = xy/x

since x ≠ 0, you can cancel it on the right hand side, which gives

(x - 2) - x² = y

and we're done.

But if I've misread your prompt, please repost it with the proper formatting so I can give the right answer.
