Summer Bookclub

by Sankeerthana » Wed Jan 01, 2014 9:47 am
Flyer: Appleseed Books is pleased to announce that our Summer Bookclub and Signing Series will feature six of the best new novels by local authors. Club registration fee includes all books, refreshments at meetings, and admission to each signing event.

Based on the information above, which of the following must be true?

1. Summer Bookclub will be popular among fans of local authors.
2. Most local authors write novels rather than poetry.
3. Book signings will not be held during regular meetings.
4. Only Bookclub members will be admitted to signing events.
5. It must be decided which new novels are the best.

OA: 5. Anyone care to explain?

Hi,

I would like to try this.(as my guess was correct)
The question is 'must be true' so we need to find out any statement which has to be true without any ambiguity.
1. will be popular - may or may bot be true, no specific info is provided
2. out of scope
3. could be true but is it must? - no
4. again could be true but no info is provided.
5. Applesssed Books announced their event that features best novels so best novels must be decided. - true

Hope you got it.

Publisher - 6 of the best novels by local authors will be featured in summer book club.

Club Registration - Includes free entertainment and refreshment to the events.

Based on the information above, which of the following must be true?

1. Summer Bookclub will be popular among fans of local authors.

The event might be / might not be popular among the fans of the local authors. The Fans might be interested meeting the authors not about the Event.

2. Most local authors write novels rather than poetry.

Not mentioned anywhere.

3. Book signings will not be held during regular meetings.

Not mentioned anywhere , might be such that book signing will be held elsewhere as well but the opportunity to meet a large number of local authors at a single place might not be there...

4. Only Bookclub members will be admitted to signing events.

Not mentioned , Registration can be taken by non members as well..

5. It must be decided which new novels are the best.

The premises states 6 of the best Novels will be featured in the BookClub , so definitely decision must be reached to determine the 6 best novels...

Hence IMO (5) holds good...

Thank you for your inputs. The reason why I put up this question is because I was baffled about the structure of this question. Looks straight forward enough and is probably a very basic question but requires an understanding of how questions on the GMAT are structured and what they test in particular. Here I think it is testing how the reader decides what must (beyond any doubt) be true(paying attention to the question stem)- this is as easy as it gets!
