Even I picked B.

and yes, both are parallel.

expressed a fear that destruction of forests and continued use of ....

expressed a fear that X and Y will cause something.

X - destruction of forests
Y - Use of fossil fuels. ( Continued modifies Use).

Destruction and Use are both used as Nouns.

Destruction is followed by a prepositional phrase 'of forests'

Use is followed by a prepositional phrase 'of fossil fuels'

Experts: please let me know if I am correct.
