1000 SC question NO 97

by magical cook » Sun Mar 18, 2007 8:28 pm
Hi,

The correct answer is E).
I think C) and D) sound odd but can find any grammertical error in A) and B). Can anyone please explain why it has to be E)??

Thanks!

Although the coordination of monetary policy can help facilitate the orderly financing of existing imbalances, it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant in the absence of an appropriate fiscal adjustment.

(A) it is unlikely that its effect on their size is significant
(B) it is unlikely that the size of their effect would be significant
(C) affecting their sizes are not likely to be significant
(D) the significance of their effect on its size is unlikely
(E) its effect on their size is not likely to be significant

As far as A goes, the pronoun "it" is ambiguous, and can't say what it refers to.
B changes the meaning "effect on their "size to size of their effect"
C awkward.
D has a plural their effect , whereas it should be singular "it's effect".
E is gramatically correct.

All the choices besides E are too wordy.

hI fRIENDS,
I am opening this topic for discussion again
D has a plural their effect , whereas it should be singular "it's effect".
E is gramatically correct.
What if, in D we correct subject verb agreement??
