this is unacceptable!

Sociologists often refer to certain age groups in this country in terms of the generation to which they belong. All of those born before 1940 are generally considered the Pre-War Generation. The Baby Boomer Generation includes those people born from 1941 to 1960, during or after World War II. Those born from 1961 to 1975, are referred to as Generation X, most noted for their supposed disillusionment with the attitudes about career ambition and money-making held dear, according to sociologists, by the Baby Boomers. Generation Y refers to all those born in 1975 or later. However, a new name, Generation D, or Digital, has been coined very recently. Generation D is often defined by the fact that its members grew up with, and integrate, computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives.

According to the information provided above, which of the following must be true?
a)No members of Generation X are members of Generation D.
b)All members of Generation X disagree with the attitudes of Baby Boomers about career ambition.
c)All members of Generation D are also members of another generation.
d)No person can be a member of more than one generation.
e)All members of Generation Y are also members of another generation.

i just cant take the OA provided in the question..this is too much..can someone help!

OA is C
Hi,

Before looking at the OA, i was able to come down with C and D; Adv. C

C. All members of Generation D are also members of another generation
(From the passage, it is clear that Gen.D was coined recently and does not have a time-period bound to it)
D. No person can be a member of more than one generation.
This is not true, because there is a fair probability that members of Gen.D could be members of Gen.X or Gen.Y

Hence C

Hope it helps!

I was browsing through the latest posts in the CR section and saw the word "This is unacceptable" I think you are very angry with the OA and the OE to support that option..

Well to be honest -- I figured the right answer after reading the information about the Generation 'D'... what is the information given about the Gen D. Well the stem clearly says that " Generation D is often defined by the fact that its members grew up with, and integrate, computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives." This means that Gen D, unlike any other Generation is not bound to any Period.. The definition says that any person can belong to Gen D if he integrates, Computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives. (My Dad is the biggest example for me :) ) he was born in 1958 -- and his fav gadgets are iPhone4 and Mac Book Air) -- Therefore, although he belongs to a different generation -- he belong to Gen D as well..

If you are a Math guy -- you can understand this by the concept of SETS.. Generation D is a UNIVERSAL SET and all other GENERATIONS are its SUBSET...

I hope you are no more Angry with this question... :)

Cheers

no i am still angry with this question! coz generation D is defined by ppl who grew up with, and integrate computer and internet technologies! If we take our dads to be examples, they didn't grow up with computer technologies so option C doesnt work!
i thot the answer should be A. Since ppl from Generation X cant grow up with computer or internet technologies hence generation X cant be a part of generation D. :x

What is your defination of Growning? Don't you consider a 50 yrs guy growing up to old age?

I was born 25 yrs ago and I started using PC when I was 12yrs old. So does that mean I have not grown up with computer or internet?

ok..if u say so i will accept C. but then by growing i thought..its like..ppl who are born now are generation D coz obviously they are growing with gadgets all around them but generation X and Y didnt grow up with those kind of gadgets or technology .had there been a grew up with OR imbibe these technologies in their lives i would have accepted it easily!

This is vague, I agree. If the statement says, Gen D grew up with Internet, etc, that would imply that Gen D was exposed to the internet at a very early age. Certainly we cannot include other members who may have adopted these technologies later on in their life. i.e The other groups did not group with internet around them
