A recent poll indicates that many people in the United States hold a combination of conservative and liberal political views; i.e., they denounce big government, saying government is doing too much and has become too powerful, while at the same time supporting many specific government programs for health care, education, and the environment.

(A) they denounce big government, saying government is doing too much and has become too powerful, while at the same time supporting

(B) they denounce big government-they say that government is doing too much and has become too powerful- but supporting at the same time

(C) they denounce big government, say that government is doing too much and it has become too powerful, while they support at the same time

(D) while they denounce big government, saying that government is doing too much and has become too powerful, at the same time supporting

I have opted C only due to parallelism.

(A) they [color=red]denounce[/color] big government, saying government is doing too much and has become too powerful, while at the same time [color=red]supporting[/color]

(B) they [color=red]denounce[/color] big government-they say that government is doing too much and has become too powerful- but [color=red]supporting [/color]at the same time

(C) they denounce big government, say that government is doing too much and it has become too powerful, while they support at the same time

(D) while they [color=red]denounce[/color] big government, saying that government is doing too much and has become too powerful, at the same time [color=red]supporting[/color]

(E) while they are denouncing big government-they say that government is doing too much and it has become too powerful- supporting at the same time - supporting must have some subject

it can`t be B
they denounce.....but supporting, not ||
it can`t be C
they denounce....., say... between denounce and say we need conjunction, perhaps denounce and say will be better version.
it can`t be E
while they are denouncing-....supporting...the main problem here that this version lacks independent clause,
while +subject (they)+verb(are denouncing) creates dependent clause that can`t stand alone, it must be linked with main clause.i mean we need another subject+verb
better version:while they denounce.....,they support....
in D i see the same problem as in E
while (adverbial conjuction) +they (subject)+ denounce (verb), at the same time supporting
the second part lacks independent clause
so left with A

IMO A as well.

Just one doubt in B:

They...government ==> Independent clause

but supporting at the same time ...==> Is this incorrect also bcoz they are not joined using comma+BUT

i want to believe that B is wrong, because but is || marker, and it must connect || parts of the sentence, here but connects denounce but supporting that are not ||.
perhaps better to write
they denounce.....but support. main verbs are ||.
or in case of two independent sentence
they denounce....,but they support

what about parallelism in A? they denounce vs supporting?

Even though C is not the best option, it maintains parallelism in this sense. Do we have an OE for this?

Yeah. To be honest I don't quite get the logic behind this part, but there are no other alternatives that come close + it sounds good.

Logically:

"Many hold a combination of lib/con views; i.e. [2 different points - something conservative and something liberal].

Then shouldn't it be DENOUNCE big government, SAYING..., and then SUPPPORT many specific programs?
