In order for to give an initial assessment , I would like to know the following:

- GMAT 530 ( 35Q, 27V) Yet to receive AWA scores
- Have worked for a span of 3 years with a world top 10 IT firm as a programmer analyst. Have received the award of Most promising associate and have recieved an early promotion.
- Have a flair for French language and pursued a certificate course in the same. Am a journalist in the company's in house e magazine. Am an avid blogger.
- Most promsing associate of the year received. Have organised a major fun activity team within my company to keep employee morale highe.Have organised outings/ various activities sparing time after work.

I am currently looking for B schools in USA and am very keen on pursuing an MBA in marketing.
My goal for the coming 5 years is to procur an MBA from a reputed B school( not confining to top 10 B schools considering m GMAT score) and see myself working as a marketing exec.

Please help me in evaluating as to which universities I might consider applying to and have strong chances on seeking admissions. Awaiting your reply.

Many thanks.

Regards,
Priyanka Upponi

Dear Priyanka,

I think it will be quite difficult for you to gain admission to a US MBA program with your current profile. Your GMAT score is quite low and your work experience/extracurriculars are similar to most applicants from India. Thus it will be difficult to make a compelling case to offer you a seat over someone else.

Having said that, you should not give up on your goal of pursuing a MBA. I would suggest retaking the GMAT to increase your score at least 100 points. If you can score in the mid-600's (or higher), you will be a more competitive candidate. Likewise, I would suggest seeking out opportunities both at and outside of work for you to be in a leadership role. You need to have some experiences that translate to the business world and showcase your leadership potential. Perhaps take another year to prepare and retake the GMAT while also seeking out these leadership experiences?

Good luck,
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thank you so very much for replying.
I have understood what you have to say, however just for the sake of knowing which universities would accept a profile like mine, would you be a position to name just a few.

I don't think I will will scure admissions to the top notch univ's however just to get an idea coudl you help me by naming a few?

Thanks a ton,
Priyanka.

are you open to schools in Australia, Asia and the Europe? some of them may not require the Gmat. not too sure though. you might have to do some research.
