The OA is the option E.

Why is E? the correct choice should be D. I am confused. <i class="em em-triumph"></i>

Total bill= 200g + 200m
=200(g+m) cents
In dollars which is 2(m+g)

Hello Vjesus12.

Let's take a look at your question.

We know the following information:

(i) It costs g cents per mile for gasoline
(ii) it costs m cents per mile for all other costs to run a car

And we want to know how many dollars will it cost to run a car 200 miles?

Since the trip was 200 miles long, then the costs are $$200\cdot g\ \ \ \ and\ \ \ \ \ \ 200\cdot m$$ So, the total cost is $$C=200\cdot g+200\cdot m$$ Now $$C=200\cdot\left(g+m\right)\ \ \ cents$$ Now, the question asks for how many dollars, and since 200 cents = 2 dollars we get that the total cost is 2(g+m).

This is why the correct answer is the option E.

The cost in cents to run a car 200 miles is 200g + 200m, so in dollars that is:

(200g + 200m)/100 = 200(g + m)/100 = 2(g + m)

Answer: E

Hi VJesus12,

We're told that it costs G CENTS per mile for gasoline and M CENTS per mile for all other costs to run a car. We're asked for the number of DOLLARS it will cost to run a car 200 miles. This question can be solved in a couple of different ways, including by TESTing VALUES.

IF.... G=2 and M=3
The the cost to run a car for 200 miles would be (2)(200) + (3)(200) = 400 + 600 = 1,000 cents = $10.00

Thus, we're looking for an answer that equals 10 when G=2 and M=3. There's only one answer that matches...

Final Answer: E
