Mannheim Business School

I am planning to give GMAT in September and targeting a year MBA program.So mainly i am looking for European MBA. Mannheim MBA, Germany is one of them i will apply to. But i am not able to find much about its MBA on the Forums. I basically want to know,

About Mannheim:
1. How is its MBA and how are the career growth after its MBA?
2. I have a 6 years exp and by the time i will join it will be 7 years. On my experience is this the good college to apply?

About Europe MBA:
1. How are job prospects in Europe? (Target Colleges: HEC, Insead, IE, Mannheim, Rotterdam)
2. How important it is to know the local language?

Hey Dude,
So Mannheim although it is not highly ranked internationally, has a fantastic reputation within German and German-speaking countries especially, and its also well-known within Europe.

You are at a good age to apply, so don't worry about that. As for your question r.e. job prospects - if you go to a good school like Mannheim, you should have good chances of good placement. Thing differ wildly from country to country and from school to school. Yes, in the short-term there are plenty of jobs if you only speak English, but if you learn the local language you will increase your options, and also it will be necessary in the long-term for your development.

As i am looking for a one year MBA and the best options available i feel are in Europe. My target colleges are Insead, HEC, IE, Mannheim, Rotterdam.
So i want to know what GMAT score i should aim for. My profile in breif,
Exp: 6 years
Nationality: Indian
Industry: IT
Currently leading a team of 15 people
One year onsite exp and in my 6 years i have worked closely with European business owners.

Otherwise, the two main things are:
1. Kill the GMAT
2. Make yourself a UNIQUE application.

Even if your profile is good, you come from a HUGE and very competitive pool! So being unique is really helpful! Find out whatever stories, personal, work or otherwise you have and see how you can integrate them into your overall story.

I wanted to know hows the job market for the Indians in Europe especially after graduating from Mannheim, Rotterdam, IE, HEC and INSEAD.

Could you please provide me some info about it. I was reading somewhere the companies in Europe are not much open for the Asians.

Should i target UK MBA colleges also. i have heard there are work visa issues.

The important thing to do - if you can - is to narrow down where you would want to work in Europe in the future, the reason being that a German school like Mannheim is a far better known option within Germany than foreign schools, should you decide that Germany is where you want to work. HEC, on the other hand is the best school if you are interested in working in France or let's say Belgium, but if the UK is your dream, a school there would be the best choice.

In other words, not all European schools give you equal opportunities in all countries. And some of them (like HEC) will require you to study the local language a bit, so you learn that as well, but this is not the case for all schools.

What I would recommend therefore is to look beyond the MBA itself and try to figure out where you see yourself working, and then try to choose a school based on that. Once you have narrowed your choices down to a few countries you can use the ARINGO chances calculator to get a feel for your chances for the specific schools in those countries: https://aringo.com/mba-admission-chances-calculator/

As for the GMAT, try to get a high score of course, as it will definitely help with all the schools, but also keep in mind that much of it comes down to your actual application as well. So you will need to work a lot on both moving on. But without knowing your future GMAT score I would definitely say your profile should be of interest for many of these schools, with the right application. You do have some excellent things to work with!

Thanks Michelle for the response.

My plan is to work either in France, Germany or Netherlands for 2 to 3 years after my MBA then come back to India. I have no plans to settling down there as of now but you never know what will be the conditions that time.
How do these colleges see an IT guy, what are the chances of acceptance.
And i am hearing a lot that European market is not open to Asians, is it true?

For the countries you are thinking of working in all the schools you have mentioned are good, including IE even though it is not located in any of them, but it is a well known school throughout Europe, so you are definitely on the right track with the schools!

Now, what you are saying about the job market in Europe may partly be true, if one gets an MBA from a tier 2 school, as there is a huge difference regarding how Tier 1 and Tier 2 are valued in Europe in general. But all the schools you have chosen are Tier 1, so I think it is less of a problem in your case. Also, all these schools have career services, including for international students and while I am not familiar with what all schools do for their international students, I know some of them (HEC and INSEAD particularly) really go out of their way to help you with career advice, opportunities etc. and are very committed to their students.

So this is a bit of a school specific issue. Have you been in touch with any of the schools or any students at any of these schools yet? Because if not, that is a great question to bring up with when you do (and I highly recommend doing that anyway). But in general, I would not say there is a general negative feeling towards Asians in IT, but the opportunities available will vary significantly between the countries and the cities in question.

Now as for being an Indian IT guy I am sure that you know it is one of the most competitive pools out there, and that goes just as much for Europe as for the US and other regions. So a good GMAT score and excellent essays etc. will be a must for you.

Could you please in US & Canada which colleges have a one year full time MBA as i am specifically looking for one year.Just to broaden my horizon i will look for US colleges as well.

How are they in comparison to European colleges?
