'An international group' singular, verb must be singular A, B and C out

D is out becuase change of meaning. D says that An international group is projecting global warming. wrong, global warming is a fact.

E is correct

"to average" is a infinitive verb, "an average of" is a noun. When you see such difference between the answers, the meaning difference is highly suspect.

D is almost saying that scientists have control over global warming.

Agree with you. Looks difficult to me. So D is grammatically rite?

If I am not worng then scientists are finding average of global warming. That is what the intended meaning is.

D says that scientists already know average of the GW and now they are chaging it from 1.8 to 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2000.

I think this is not the intended meaning is. Therefore, I rejected D

Yes, I believe the sentence has the correct infinitive phrase modifier.

An international group of more than 2,000 scientists projects global warming to average from 1.8 to 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2000.

Final solution at one place:

Important: The purpose of this post (and all the other posts by me) is to give a complete solution to all GMAT-Prep Verbal questions at one place. Sometimes students have to wade through dozens of posts to get to the final answer. My posts will give one complete and crisp solution required to arrive at the correct answer by eliminating the wrong one. Some of the content in these posts may have been taken from various other sources (discussion forums).

An international group of more than 2,000 scientists project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit by the year 2000.
(A) project an average global warming that will be between 1.8 and
(B) project an average global warming to be from 1.8 to
(C) project global warming that will average between 1.8 and
(D) projects global warming to average from 1.8 to
(E) projects an average global warming of between 1.8 and

The subject of the sentence is 'group', so the correct verb is 'projects' ... this eliminates A, B, and C.

Also, the average is a fixed number. It is not a range.

Imagine someone average GMAT score is 730 (in multiple attempts).

We can say: His average score is between 720 and 740. CORRECT

But we can't say: His average score is from 720 to 740. INCORRECT

Same deal here: So D is wrong.

Correct: E

option E says average "of between".... isn't the use of two prepositions wrong here?

The Correct option is (E)
1) Range from
2) average between
