Help with options – Low gpa - SCU?

Hello,

I need some help advice in figuring out what my options are in terms of schools.

Basically my undergrad was from San Jose State and my gpa was 2.5, econ major. I’ve been working in the financial sector since 2005, and before that I have at least 5 years working in other fields.

I’m pretty sure the SJSU mba program is an option I can get into, but my question is, is Santa Clara an option for me? Does my low gpa totally take me out of the running? If not, what kind of score should I be looking to give myself a chance?

Dear forereal,

With the amount of work experience you noted in your post, I assume you have been out of college over 5 years. Because a substantial amount of time has passed, your GPA is not as much of a weakness as it would be if you had graduated only 2 years ago. However, it is something to be concerned about as you need to show evidence of your ability to succeed in the classroom. It is important to demonstrate this ability with a high GMAT score, ideally above the school's average. Once you have your GMAT score, then you should be able to assess which schools you might be competitive for in terms of GMAT/GPA.
