[spoiler]The answer can't be B or E since 'fact that it depicts...' is wordier than 'depiction.' The answer can't be D since 'thus' is used at the end unnecessarily. The answer isn't C since it alters the meaning of the sentence; C suggests that only the emotional overtones reduce the credibility of the work whereas A retains the original meaning.[/spoiler]

C changes the meaning of the proposed phrase.
