Going to the GMAT Exam

by DBushkalov » Mon Apr 01, 2013 2:40 pm
Hi guys,

just before I go to bed I decided to share something with you that bothers me quite a lot.

Well, there are many men and women out there who prepare for the gmat exam. The y get better and better and eventually start scoring above the 650's concistently.

However, when they go to sit for the exam, many of these people score either in the low end of their scores thus far or even lower sometimes. Therefore I started this thread to ask you what you believe the reason for this could be ? Indeed, there must be some pressure but I do not believe that if you know something good enough for the 700s you will wind up with a 580 score. What's your view on that ? How do you think this issue could be avoided or at least how can one reduce the probability that it occurs to minimum ?

And very briefly, can someone maybe tell me if I will be very handicapped if I haven't used this laminated booklet with a felt-tip pen to take notes and work out problems?

Thanks a lot
C ya in the morning :) Good day and be inspired :)

Generally the reason for getting a score 100 points lower than what you are capable of stems from making small errors on questions that you can get right. The GMAT is a test that requires attention to detail right through - despite the time pressure and the anxiety of the moment. The lower score results from missing questions that you should get right - (indeed people often believe that they have gotten these right)!

I have written an article about the importance of getting the questions right that you can. https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2012/12/ ... n-the-gmat

Another issue may be that the practice test scores can be inflated by studying for so long that you have taken the same practice test many times.

I think some people panic in formal testing environments. This test is a pretty big deal, and some students place a LOT of pressure on themselves, especially those who wait until the last minute to write the test and don't leave themselves time for a rewrite.
