Help in shortlisting B-schools.

Hi I'm looking to shortlist B-Schools for 2012 and was looking for some help.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. I have close to 10 years of work experience of which the last 8 years is in IT. IN IT I've worked as a programmer initially, then moved to a module lead and for the past two years I'm working as a business analyst/project manager in the Pharma domain.

I took the gmat twice last year scoring 680 and then 740. I don't think my GPA is great. Coming from India where we don't have GPA, I'm guessing it should be around the 3.0 mark. I'm not sure though.

I'm primarily looking at B-schools in the US but am open to any depending on the program.

Let me know what you guys think.

Nikhil,

I would say, don't compare your percetage of marks with GPA. If you don't have GPA system. Let it provide them in the original way.
As of now, I'm too not so deep in shortlisting the schools.
But, if I'm asked, I would say, that I would go with MBA program of top 25 US B schools.
Still, the decision depends from person to person.
Yes!!! The specialisation is important. this is what you have to really look for.

Well, a good place to start is to look for programs that have strengths in your domains.


Wharton, Fuqua and Kellogg all have veeeeery strong MBA programs which incorporate a health care emphasis. Wharton has a Health Care Management major, with faculty from the Business, Medical and Nursing schools of the University of Pennsylvania. Kellogg has the Health Industry Management (HIM), really one of the top in the US. Fuqua had a great med school and is near Research Triangle Park, a heaven for healthcare job seekers. You also have Sloan,(Biomedical Enterprise Program) Haas (Healthcare certificate) and Columbia. If this is relevant you can also look into double degree programs that incorporate a Healthcare program with an MBA for example an MBA-MHA, or a MBA-MPH.

Of course if you attended any program in the top 20 it could probably get you to your goals. So think alos about where you would like to go in terms of location/school size/ etc.
