Columbia BS - 730 GMAT, GPA4.0, Round 3

by caspermonday » Mon Sep 07, 2009 3:50 am
Hi,

I am an international student (Eastern Europe) aiming to get to Columbia. GMAT 730 Q49V41, GPA 4.0, 3 years working in Big4, decent recommendations from senior manager and manager, member of Qigong Healthcare Association. I think that my GMAT score is lower than desired and I scheduled a retake of GMAT on the 7th October, the deadline for round 3.

Columbia says that they consider the applications in the order of submission. This means that if I apply on 7th October, my application form will be reviewed among the last ones. An probably, there is a chance that by this time no places will be left.

My question is: is there any way to ensure that my application is reviewed (for example, by asking a current student to recommend me)? Or it is better not to take risk and apply with 730 score?

Thank you!

Columbia starts its review period in January. It does not have rounds, it has rolling admissions. I think the October 7th deadline is valid for the January term, the term starting January 2010.

Check this out for details.

Btw, your 730 is a great score. No need to retake, IMHO. You're already in the upper middle 80% range.

I guess all I can say is that you have really strong academics and you seem like a great candidate, especially if you're not in any over-represented group (i.e. Indian IT Male - IIM). You have not mentioned any extra curricular activities, which is always a plus when applying.

BUT take everything (except the dates in that link) with a pile of salt, since I'm no admissions expert - not by a long shot. I myself am targeting Columbia, it's my crown jewel, but I'm probably still a few years away from applying.

Good luck!
