Many clients who live far from their target school ask how important it is to accept an invitation to interview in person. Short answer: CRITICAL! Even though it may be inconvenient, showing up not only communicates passion and commitment, it also communicates much more information than a phone interview. Some say body language, eye contact and gestures count for as much as 80% of communication. In fact, a psychologist named Mehrabian led to the conclusion that nonverbal channels are 12.5 times more powerful in communicating interpersonal attitudes and feelings than the verbal channel alone. So if you are among the lucky few to be invited for an interview--do yourself a favor and go! There's no better way to convey passion for a school than in the flesh.
