The Kwakiutl recognised one social unit larger than the tribe-the confederacy, which wasa cluster of loosely knit, informally related neighbouring tribes who interacted with themselves more often than between other tribes.
a)tribe who interacted with themselves more often than between
b)tribes who interacted among each other more often, than among
c)tribes who interacted with one another more often than with
d)tribes, interacting among each other more often than between
e)tribes, interacting among one another more often than with
In general, how to choose among "between, among and with"?

You interact 'with' someone, not interact 'among'. So eliminate B/D/E.
In A, usage for 'between' is wrong. C remains.
Look at this post for general usage of between/among https://www.beatthegmat.com/between-vs-among-t69113.html

You can split this question in this way--gmatblood wrote:The Kwakiutl recognised one social unit larger than the tribe-the confederacy, which wasa cluster of loosely knit, informally related neighbouring tribes who interacted with themselves more often than between other tribes.
a)tribe who interacted with themselves more often than between
b)tribes who interacted among each other more often, than among

d)tribes, interacting among each other more often than between
e)tribes, interacting among one another more often than with
In general, how to choose among "between, among and with"?
Kwakiutl interacted with one another [ within their tribe -- and a tribe consists of many people ]
Kwakiutl interacted with other tribes [ here you can treat other tribes as Y ]
X interacted with Y.
OPTION C uses this correctly.
