Essay Readers

A few MBAs at my target schools have offered to read my essays and I definitely appreciate their willingness to do so. But in order to not be overwhelmed with contradictory feedback, how do I decide who is best to read my essays?

1. They are professionals (that's us!)
2. They are very very good writers (their feedback will be valuable)
3. They have gotten into Business school
4. You trust them because they know you well and are very intelligent

You can ask them for their reasons for providing the feedback so you can understand better. Then, go with what seems right to you.

It can't hurt to get feedback from a current student at the school that you're trying to get in to. Remember, you don't have to take their advice. There are insights that current students will be able to provide that no admissions consultant can if he/she did not go to said school. Sorry admissions consultants!

Sure consultants are "experts" but who better to get advice from on how to get into a school than a person who just got into that school?

Also realize that current students are incredibly busy, so for them to extend an offer to you is a big deal. Think of all of the other applicants who didn't get someone to do that.

This post may sound like I'm bashing admin consultants but I'm not. I used one too... but I also got feedback from current students at every school that I applied too.
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.
