Help PlZzzz

by Pinku » Thu Jul 22, 2010 10:01 pm
Given that in a pack of plates, 1/3 plates are damaged, 2/3 plates are cracked and 1/3 of them are damaged and cracked. If 80 are not hampered, then what is the number of total plates?

1/3 are damaged, 2/3 are cracked , but only 1/3 are cracked and damaged, therefore 1/3 are still left which is given as 80, therefore, 1/3 is 80, total is 3*80= 240

A - cracked plate
B - damaged plate

Total no plates that are cracked and damaged(A U B)=
Total A + total B - total in A&B
=1/3+2/3-1/3
=2/3

plates that are not hampered = 1 -2/3=1/3

given

1/3=80
1 = T

T =80*3=240
