40%

55%

35%

30%

S selling price
x be cost price

so (75 /100 * s ) / x = 25

3s = x

now

(90/100 * s )/ x =

(3s/x )* 30

30

hence 30 %

3/2 hours

3/5 hours

2/3 hours

1/2 hours

cars are moving in same direction!!! i guess

The question looks ambiguous to me..
Pls correct me, if I am wrong.

Here are the ways that I could interpret.

1. Original price = 100. They give a 25% discount. They earn 25% profit.
Here is 25% profit on 100?
OR
25% profit on 75?

2. "If they now give 10% discount"
Does it mean 10% discount on 100 (ie instead of giving a 25% discount)
OR
is it another 10% discount on 75 ??

Pls let me know your thoughts.

S selling price

so (75 /100 * s ) / x = 25
3s = x
now
(90/100 * s )/ x =
(3s/x )* 30
30
hence 30 %
(75 /100 * s ) / x = 25
why 25? Discounted price divided by cost will be 1,25
(75 /100 * s ) / x = 1.25
3s/4x = 5/4
20x=12s
5x=3s
s=5x/3

9s/10 = 9*5x/10*3 = 3x/2 this is price with 10% discount
3x/2x = 3/2. So, 50% profit

Can you explain how you came to this? Im not seeing x = 3s out of this original equation

so (75 /100 * s ) / x = 25

3s = x

The mindset that I had when I solved this problem was as follows:

The company paid x dollars on an item and they are selling it for y dollars.
.75y= 1.25x
A 10% discount would mean:

.90y=(?)x

?=1.5 or a 50 percent profit... I'm kind of surprised that it isn't an answer choice..

I see a ratio here for the first problem.

for 75%x the company receives 25%x as profit

So, for 90%x, what profit will the company receive?

75:25 = 90:x
25/75 = x/90
1/3 = x/90
3x=90
x=30
so 30%

For the second question, if the cars are 15kms apart and traveling along the same path AND the faster car is behind the slower car, then it will take 3/2 hour (one and one half hour) for the car traveling 10k/h faster to make up the 15km difference.
However, that is a lot to infer from the question, which needs to be less ambiguous.
