Last 24 hours, only had 2 weeks to study

by esiverts » Sun Aug 05, 2012 11:14 am
All right, I had just over 2 weeks to study for a last-minute stab at the GMAT, as the school I was going to attend decided to wait to start the next cohort until Spring.

So I madly put together 3 more applications and am sitting for the GMAT TOMORROW after just a couple weeks of studying.

Last weekend I took a practice exam at home with distractions from husband and baby and still managed a 670. I scored better in verbal (40/89th percentile) and 42/59th percentile in quant. My lowest scores were in data sufficiency. Did well on IR (8).

I still have lots of problems left in my various guides I can work on. I'm concentrating most on math, since this was my lower percentile score between the two.

With 24 hours left, what would you be working on? Test is at 12:30 tomorrow. Plan to continue to hit it hard all day today/tonight and review lightly for a couple of hours tomorrow as a warmup for the test (not so much to get fried- this test-day strategy was successful for me on the CPA exam). Strategy suggestions for today/tonight?

Erica.

Do whatever has worked well for you before in the CPA exam. Focus on your strengths. And most importantly, sleep for 8 hours. You need a clear mind for the test.
Stick to what you know works for you. :)

That's a good point. What DID I do the day before a section of the CPA exam?

I'd review key equations and study points from my weak areas and do a few random problems from each area. Then I'd go back and review the key equations again.

I'd also pull out a totally new source of information (any kind of summary guide I could find) and scan for random nuggets to add to the information database in my head.

Any problems I got wrong I will look up the underlying theory and then re-calculate again from the beginning.

I guess that's what I'll keep doing!

It's probably too late for any additional advice now, but good luck! I hope you were able to get a good night's rest before the exam.

It's kind of late to go for anything new, but I'd recommend going over your old tests and seeing what you did wrong. Try to re-do those problems if you haven't already. If you have, do them again, or look for similar problems of the same type.

Good luck!!
