2.The woman tore open the package ,she had just received, with her fingernails.
3.With her fingernails, the woman tore open the package she had just received.

received with her fingernails is incorrect in 1.

I am with 2.
Although, I am not able to find any grammatical error in 3 but 2 is looking better.

Whats the explanation in your online guide?

2 is correct.

Package is a noun which was torn with fingernails.

the phrase"she had received" is a phrase qualifying a package

(2) is a run-on sentence.

ONLY (3) is CORRECT.

i choose 3

1. The woman tore open the package she had just received with her fingernails.

She didn't recieve the package with her fingernails

2. i don't think there is any grammatical error here.

she had just received is the non-restrictive clause which can describe the non-essential information.

but this choice is not as clear and concise as 3rd

@Bidisha800 Pls explain why 2 is run on ?

(incorrect )

2.The woman tore open the package ,she had just received, with her fingernails.
(incorrect) - reason is explained in third answer.

3.With her fingernails, the woman tore open the package she had just received.
Correct - 'with her fingernails' - is a modifier that should be placed closest to the word tore. (how she tore is the info the modifier gives)

I feel its very easy to get lost .......scares me

I go for 3.

Incorrect : Its a run on sentence, not clear what modifies what. Ambiguous.

2.The woman tore open the package ,she had just received, with her fingernails.
(incorrect) -the 2nd , makes it ambiguous if women received package with finger nails.

3.With her fingernails, the woman tore open the package she had just received.
This is clear and unambiguous.

What's the correct answer?
