Letter of Rec

by oustone85 » Tue May 19, 2009 12:41 pm
I have a question regarding who I should ask to write a letter of recommendation for me. Would it be better to ask for a letter of rec from my direct supervisor who I constantly work with on a daily basis, or should I ask someone up the food chain who i work with less but has a more impressive title (in this case the controller of the company)?

My supervisor obviously has a better idea of my skills, but I'm curious to know if a letter from someone with a more impressive title would pull more weight. Thanks in advance!

Dear oustone85,

It is always best to get recommendations from those that know you best/work with you the most. A rec from an executive who doesn't know you is meaningless. Schools are not impressed by titles--they are impressed by people who work closely with you giving candid feedback on you in a professional capacity.

Regards,
Lisa
