Y-> Boston to Newyork -> S speed -> left at 3.50 PM

S=300 or 100 is derived from the information in the problem. This did not include Statement1.

But, we are not sure whether S is 100 or 300.

Which means the speed of Y is greater than speed of X.

Distance is greater than 140.
We know the relation between speed and Distance. So we get speed > 240.
So speed should be 300.
think this is ok?

my logic precludes the combination of 2 statements; without checking on either statement we may not abandon one of the quadratics values of S.
