1000 SC - 449

It seems likely that a number of astronomical phenomena, such as the formation of planetary nebulas, may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other at close range.

(A) may be caused by the interaction where two stars orbit each other
(B) may be caused by the interaction between two stars that each orbit the other
(C) are because of the interaction between two stars that orbit each other
(D) are caused by the interaction of two stars where each is orbiting the other
(E) are caused by the interaction of two stars orbiting each other

OA - E
Wht's wrong with C??
Trying hard!!!

I think that in C "beacuse of" is wrongly used since the question talks about the formation of planetary nebula that is caused for something and not is beacuse of something, it changes the meaning.

Here, if you see closely, we have 2 things that can be modified:
A number
Phenomena
What is question asking us to modify? If you have answer to this, you will get the correct answer.

See, C choice modifies number that is, "A number is because of..." I think, which doenot make any sense.

E modifies phenomena...I will pick E.

OG way of negating option C is::

"are" requires a verb form i.e. 'caused', rather than an adverb i.e. 'because'..

I am going by my ear on this one, should not do that, "because of" really sounds awkward to me
E is my answer
"Single Malt is better than Blended"

Hi,

The major diff btwn C & E are : usage of "because of" and "caused by"

Because of - modifies Verb and answers the question "why"

Caused by OR due to - modifies noun

So in this sentence below, it modifies the "a number of phenomena" a plural subject noun.
