Janet, Michael, and Jackson each own a number of shares of stock in a company. How many shares does Janet own?

(1) Janet and Michael together own a total of 900 shares.
(2) Janet and Jackson together own a total of 1500 shares

Let Janet owns N shares, Michael owns M shares and Jackson owns S shares of stock in the company. We have to find the value of N.

(1) N + M = 900. So, (1) is NOT SUFFICIENT.
(2) N + S = 1500. So, (2) is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Combining (1) and (2), we can't find the value of N as we have 3 variables and 2 equations.

The correct answer is [spoiler](E).[/spoiler]
