Question
“Whether people accept or reject an idea depends more on the way it is presented to them than on the merits of the idea itself.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.
Answer
Above statement says that presentation skills are more important than actual product. I would like to say that I don't agree with the author. I think that people cannot be fooled by just using presentation skills. Reasons supporting my views are as follows.
First of all, I think people are wise enough. They can do their own thinking and analysis to determine the value of product. One can definately attract people by using good presentation skills. But once people get attracted they do their own analysis to judge the product. To support my view I would like to provide example of big movies. Throughout cinema history one can see that some movies are made using good stars, very huge budget, latest technology and side effects. People get attracted to these movies easily. But if story and overall movie is not good then people won't accept the movie. After first few weeks that movie won't attract viewers. This example is not only applicable to Hollywood but also to movies made in other countries such as movies made in India, Pakistan or in European countries.
To enforce my views I would also like to provide example of new car "Palio" which was introduced by "Fiat" car company in Indian market. Fiat used very aggresive advertising campaign to impress Indian people. Fiat used to give full length advertisements in news paper, company hired Indian celebrities to promote the product and also made effective use of electonic media such as radio, Television and internet. But "Palio" failed in Indian car market. Even though for initial few months sale of the car was good later on sale dropped significantly. Customers who bought the car earlier were unhappy about the car's performance and their negative feedback caused other people not to buy "Palio". In short as someone has said "You can fool some people at some times, but you cannot full everyone at all times!"
Therefore, in long term I think that general public cannot be impressed by using presentation skills only. Presentation skills can certainly help to achieve initial success but to achieve long term success we need good product.
