(1) 60% of the patients are male, and the rest are female

(2) 25% of the male patients are in IC, and 80% of the female patients are in the RC.

Total patients = 400

Target question => What % of the hospital's patients are in IC?


Statement 1 => 60% of the patients are male and the rest are female
Male = 60% ; while female = 100 - 60 = 40% but there is no reference to number or percent of patients in intensive and regular care so statement 1 is NOT SUFFICIENT


Statement 2 => 25% of the male patients are in IC and 80% of the female patients are in the RC
Total male patients in IC = 25% of total male patients
Total female patients in IC = 100 - 80 = 20% of total female patients but total number or % of the male and female patient is unknown, hence statement 2 is NOT SUFFICIENT


Combining both statements together =>
From statement 1 =>male = 60% 0f 400 = 240
Female = 400 - 240 = 160
From statement 2 => male in IC = 25% of 240 = 60
Female in IC = 20% of 160 = total patients in IC = 60 + 32 = 92
% of patient in IC = 92/400 *100/1 = 23%

Combining both statements together ARE SUFFICIENT,
Answer = C
