SC -- due to

Dear friends, please see the following sentence,

In late 1997, the chambers inside the pyramid of the Pharaoh Menkaure at Giza were closed to visitors for cleaning and repair due to moisture exhaled by tourists, which raised its humidity to such levels so that salt from the stone was crystallizing and fungus was growing on the walls.

this is OG question, OG explains "due to " is incorrect.
IMO, "due to" that follows nouns is ok here because cleaning is gerund as a noun and repair is noun,
I view them as nouns because they follow "for", if cleaning and repairing, then I will view it as action,

I have no idea about my fault, please clarify.

thanks a lot
have a nice day

Hi,
this is a meaning issue

I'll explain this issue by presenting meaning difference.

"due to" that follows nouns is structurally ok but intended meaning is lost here.
Here due to automatically refer to repair, that is not correct. Please see my reason to eliminate below

Pharaoh Menkaure......closed....for cleaning and repair because of............>here because of refer to the immediate whole portion /action of the sentence.

Pharaoh Menkaure......closed....for cleaning and repair due to............>here due to automatically refer to the immediate noun first.basically here due to illogically explain about repair.Incorrect

If replacing ""due to"" with ""because of"" creates a workable sentence, then ""due to"" is incorrect.

Correct use of due to :I suffered a fracture due to the fall .......>"due to the fall" modifies "fracture".

Thanks

Please let me know if I missed any point.
What is of supreme importance in war is to attack the enemy's strategy.
