Hi,
All of you might be aware of the modifiers rules but still I am posting a short note.Hope it is helpful.
Participle (Verb + ing/ed) phrase followed by a "," is used to modify a Noun.
eg Using the latest technology,the engineer solved the problem.
"using...technology" is modifying the Noun-Engineer
where as main clause + comma + (Verb +ing form) modifies the subject + verb.
eg The Adirondack mountains, unlike other mountain ranges that lie on fault lines, are in the shape of a dome, largely because of a deep uplift under the crust of the Earth, occurring about a billion years ago.
Here occurring is modifying the Noun "The Adirondack mountains" which is incorrect
