imo D

A - adeplty handling does not sound correct
B - ignore sentences starting with 'Being' or usually which even have 'being'
C - awkward construction
D - is crystal clear. More adept than his predecessors... who was more adept? The owner
E - more 'adept' not adeplty.

sorry vivek. I don't know the exact grammar reason why A is incorrect. All I know is that if it were 'More adept at handling' rather than 'More adeptly handling' then A would've been correct.

I see what you are saying though - adeptly is an adverb modifying a verb so it should work but here I just think the usage of adeptly is inappropriate.

Vivek,
IMO D

A: "more adeptly handling.." is very awkward.

Also D uses the idiom "adept.. at"

Vivek,

In A, the phrase, More adeptly handling responsibilities than his
predecessors were is comparing the handling responsibilities rather than comparing the owner and his predecessor.

I think this is the error with A
