two tanks x and y are filled to capacity with jet fuel .tank x holds 600gallons more than tank y.if 100 gallons of fuel were to be pumped from each tank,tank x would contain 3 times as much fuel as tank y.what is the total number of gallons of fuel in the two full tanks?
a] 1400
b] 1200
c] 1000

Capacity of tank X- Capacity of tank Y=600
X-Y=600.......(1)

After removal of 100G from each tank

Tank X would contain (X-100) G
Tank Y would contain (Y-100) G

Given that

(X-100)=3(Y-100)
X-100=3Y-300
X-3Y=400......(2)

Solving 1 and 2
Y=100
X=700
Total=800 Hence E

tank X = y + 600

tank Y = y

y+500/y- 100 = 3

y+500 = 3y-300

y= 400

total capacity = 400+600+400 = 1400
