Hi All,

I really need help with getting the basic books to start the GMAT preparation. Last I studied was back in 2001. Its almost been 10 years.

I need recommendations for the basic books for Math, Verbal etc. I have the Kaplan GMAT book, but before that I need some books for Math to brush up my rusty skills. Its been awhile and it seems I have completely forgotten everything.

Could some of you suggest me some books that can brush up the basics of Math and other areas and then I might have an easier graduation to OGs and Kaplan.

Right now I feel a little demotivated and lost.

Thanks guys!!

I would suggest getting each of the Manhattan GMAT guides. If you feel that math will be a real weakness, you may also want to consider getting Manhattan GMAT's math foundations book and starting with that one.

Well,as osirus has said the MGMAT guides are wonderful.I second that.
Also, for practice I would recommend going thru the OG 12th edition.I guess it is enough if you don't have that much time to spare for the Quantitative Review.
I found the difficulty of questions in OG 12th edition to be effective.

Also guys,I wanted to ask if doing Kaplan Workbook is essential for more practice?
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

I have the Official GUide 12th edition and OGs for verbal n Quant...Would it be fine to start with them and then come back to Manhattan guides or start with Manhattan guides only?

You should definitely start with the Manhattan Guides first. These are STUDY guides and will give you a good baseline with which to tackle the OG problems. It wouldn't help at all to do the OG problems and then study the MGMAT Guides. If you're really rusty with math, pick up the MGMAT Foundations of math guide too.

Well,I see that you have the appropriate resources over here.
Firstly-Take a Diagnostic Test.
Next-Do the Manhattan guides-It will help you clarify your concepts and do away with your weak areas.
Next-Attempt some problems form the OG in a timed environment.See what mistakes you are making ,identify them and look up again those concepts with the guides.
Next-After brushing up with the concepts again do the questions from the OG.
Note:-It is very important to see the soln. approach made in the OG.This way you can be acquainted how to go about the problems.

Most Imp. Note:-Cherish the questions in the OG.They are the nearest replica of the questions you will get on the actual exam day.Don't waste them.Always attempt them in a timed manner just as you will do on the test-day.
For random practice, there are lots of other sources too.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

I am starting with Maths first...I am not all that bad at sentence correction or Reading comprehension. Going to buy the Manhattan GMAT math foundation book today evening and then the next MGMAT books.

Does it make sense to buy the set of 8 strategy books at once of each at a time.

I guess i need math revision as its been so long. Thanks guys! will keep you posted on the developments.

I think Manhattan GMAT maths guide would be the best if u wanna brush up ur mind & can recall evrything in a nap...though if u wan to start over again just go to books and first try HS books..
