Profile Evaluation

by Saeed85 » Thu Jun 19, 2008 10:40 am
Hi,

Thank you for evaluating my profile. I haven't taken the GMAT yet but I am scheduled for to take the test in August. Well, I just graduated from Pace University where my undergraduate GPA is a 3.75 but prior to attending Pace I went to two other colleges. My first college I had a GPA of a 3.9, my second college where I suffered a serious setback my gpa plummeted to a 3.0 but when I went to Pace my GPA was a 3.83 but because of a recent B that I earned it went to a 3.75.

For several years prior to entering college, I have worked in my father's construction company and now I am the President of the company. I independently started my own company but failed at it but that didn't stop me from opening an international based company 6 months later which specializes in equipment for countries dealing with power shortages. Another company that I am managing with my father is a recruitment agency where we recommend nurses to hospitals across America.

My father is very politically involved in our community and because of this I have been a part of several Women's Freedom leadership associations that specifically target the women in my community. I have worked with a few senators based in NY and a few diplomats and presidents from my country.

My parents want me to apply to Columbia since it is closer to home because women from my country do not travel by themselves, but I want a chance to prove myself by applying to Harvard or Stanford. Do you think I should apply to Harvard and/or Stanford? Does attending three undergraduate colleges affect my chances? Is there anything else that I should include or do to make my application strong?

Thank you for your time and effort in evaluating my profile.

Dear Saeed85,

All of the schools you mention are excellent. If you really want to attend Harvard or Stanford and believe they can provide you what you want in terms of your MBA education, then you should consider applying to them. However, you need to feel comfortable with your decisions and the potential impact on your family.

Attending three different schools is not a negative but you might want to explain your dip in GPA if you feel it could cause concern. Ultimately, the competitiveness of your application will depend on your GMAT score, your recommendations, your essays and your interview. If you present a compelling overall application, then you should gain admission to a good program. I would encourage you to peruse this site for helpful tips on how to put together a strong application.

Best of luck,
Lisa
