From Peace Corps to Wall Street

by whatsupma » Thu Mar 13, 2008 6:41 am
What schools can land me an IB summer internship considering my only experience is in non-profit? Does it have to be a H/S/W? M7? T15? Assume that I earned a 3.6 from a top10 undergrad with strong ties to wall street (in addition to my own), 750 GMAT, and good leadership experience. (p.s. I am not selling out, I hope to eventually return to microfinance and would like to pay off my college and grad school loans as well)

I'm a Darden and Fuqua admit, and am waiting on a couple others. Can these schools get me there?

Dear whatsupma:

You are the only one who can obtain an internship in investment banking. A school does not "get" people jobs, internships or otherwise. The career offices of these schools are a resource for students in their job search. They can help you prepare for interviews, review resumes and cover letters, and assist with a strategy to obtain the internship you want. Of course, some schools have stronger ties to certain industries than others, and thus there might be more opportunities that come to campus. But at the end of the day, you are the only one who can make it happen.

Darden and Fuqua are both strong programs with excellent reputations. Both schools should have the resources to assist you in achieving your career goals.

Good luck!
Lisa
