Schools of my reach - please advice

by nehs » Sat Sep 25, 2010 1:00 pm
I just finished the GMAT today and unfortunately performed below expectation. My score is 490.
I had initially planned to apply to Baruch College(CUNY) and NJIT. Both for the MS programs.

I know that I can write EXCELLENT essays. I' have managed to get good letters of recommendation too(3 years full time work exp). A lot of community service with American Red Cross and American Cancer society. I have almost volunteered with them for 1 year(part time).

Should I go ahead and apply to Baruch and hope that some miracle will happen for my admit or should I retake the GMAT before applying? I desperately need to get into their spring session. I am so worried because of this.

Any advice please?

I would take a prep course with live instruction and try to re-take to at least get up in the mid-500s if you can. Also, looks at PT programs, as they are more forgiving of GMAT scores since they don't have to report them for rankings.

Bryant, Thank You very much for your reply.

Yes - I am looking at a re-take and this time with a prep course. But, in the meanwhile I have decided to atleast apply to my school of interest - Baruch (New York). If I get an admit then I am saved the energy of studying for GMAT again.

I am,infact, looking at the part time MS program of Baruch. They have said that their 80% scores are in the 510-700 range. So just going to try applying.

Do you mean to say that only FT program GMAT averages show up on websites?
