Breaks during the test

by [email protected] » Tue Apr 10, 2012 5:13 am
Hi,

I have got a very basic question
Is it advisable to take the optional breaks during the GMAT (I find it useful during the practice tests at home)
If yes, should we leave the exam room or sit at your seat during the break
I think there are certain procedure you need to follow to leave the exam room.

Also, Do I need to carry anything else apart from my passport to the center on the exam day (I mean the payment receipt or any other document)

Thanks in advance

You are supposed to move out to the lounge during breaks. You cannot sit in there. Proctors will brief you about the procedures to be followed during breaks, so don't worry about it. The break time includes the time you move out from your PC till you get back and sign in, so make sure you have time for the entry procedures as well.

You need to carry your appointment letter and a valid ID, a passport if you are an indian. Check out this link for more info about what you are supposed to bring to the Test center.

Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

I strongly recommend taking the breaks. For most people, taking a few minutes to unwind from the last section is crucial to performing well on the next section. Use the restroom, get a drink, etc.

Not only do you need to take your breaks in order to relax but there are some important things that you might not have considered.

Your brain can only make so many complex decisions before it starts to run down. This can happen quickly during a test like the GMAT. In scientific studies they made a remarkable finding, only sugar can restore the decision-making/ self-control portion of the brain!!! I will post a front-page article soon called "The Mental Marathon" in which I discuss these issues.

So not only do you need to take the break, and as Bill says unwind and especially Use the Restroom, but you also need to bring something pretty sugary as a snack to eat at both of the breaks. Actually bring 3 snacks in case you eat one before the test starts...
