Plz explain - Comparison

by akashkumar1987 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:22 pm
Hi,

Ambiguous: I like cheese more than Yvette.
Right: I like cheese more than Yvette DOES.
Right: I like cheese more than I DO Yvette.

Please explain what is the issue in the Ambiguous sentence and how is it corrected in the "Right" sentence.

Thanks,
Akash

The first sentence is ambigious because two meanings are possible:

I like cheese more than Yvette likes cheese.

I like cheese more than I like Yvette.

The writer's meaning is clear in both of the "right" sentences, so the problem has been corrected.
