Evaluation Request

I'm interested in:
1) Haas Ewmba
2) Booth Executive
3) Kellogg Executive
4) Haas Exec
5) UCLA Anderson femba
in that order.
Could the consultants please evaluate my profile?
Any other schools you recommend (or not recommend)??

My main concerns are:
1) Haas EWMBA is my 1st choice school. Will age (38 in June'13) become a factor in getting denied into the Haas EWMBA program?


-GMAT 3rd attempt Dec 2013 700(Q48,V38), 2nd attempt 650 (Q45/V34), 1st attempt (Aug '08) 620 (Q47/V28)
-Senior Software Engineer with 16 years of experience (Indian male IT professional in the bay area)
-B.E. Computer Science (about 68% aggregate from an Indian University)
-Extra curricular: Toastmasters for about 2 years- Been Secretary and VP Education,
conducted speech contests and organized a lot of meetings.
-Been helping a friend in his potential start-up in terms of software development/ideas during spare time.
-Lots of start-up experience (7 years) starting from the ground up but as an engineer(5 start-ups in 5 years at one time)
-Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience as a Lead/Senior Engineer.
-Influenced senior management/VP in companies I worked for.
-2nd Engineer of a branch of a bay area company started in India -involved in ground-up work.
-Community experience- helped organize meetings and actively volunteered against an apartment management for better facilities. This eventually led to a lawsuit. Also volunteered in temples.

Congrats on the good work with your GMAT improvement. That's a nice progression.

I previously managed Executive MBA Admissions at a top regional EMBA program. While you provide a lot of information in your profile, there are some additional questions.

The one thing you didn't mention in your profile is your managerial experience. Do you have any experience managing people, projects or budgets?

Is your organization supporting your pursuit of the EMBA? Financially or time-wise only?

Competitive EMBA programs will want to know more about your managerial experience, and what the future holds for you post-EMBA.

I hope my insights are helpful to you.

Thanks for the response Wendy.

To answer the first question, I do not have a formal managerial experience and have not managed budgets but I have led projects technically and been a mentor to many engineers in many projects.

To answer your second question, I haven't approached my organization yet but looking at past candidates who have done this in my organization, I think they will be supportive of the MBA. They will not support it financially though.

I am also very eager to know how age plays in Haas ewmba admission decisions.

Well even if they don't financially support you, if you can get the promise of a managerial promotion upon your return, this can be VERY helpful!

I am most concerned about my age!!
I will be 38 in June '13 and 39 when I enter school next year.
Will I be out of the league for my fellow classmates?
(I think the average age in these schools for part-time MBA is around 30)

It is looking highly unlikely that my employer will allow an Exec MBA and let me take days off from work. Hence I am leaning towards a Saturday MBA now.

Could the experts please evaluate my profile for the same schools but for the Weekend programs?
1) Haas Ewmba
2) Booth Weekend
3) Kellogg Weekend
4) UCLA Anderson FeMBA.
