Paul Gauguin paintings

by kvitkod » Sun May 29, 2011 12:42 pm
In his final paintings, Paul Gauguin implicitly contrasts a materialistic European culture with what he regards as the natural existence of the people of Tahiti.

A) with what he regards as
B) with that which he regards to be
C) that he regards being
D) and that which he regards as
E) and what he regards to be

[spoiler]OA is A. I think B is grammatically correct as well. So if we have two correct options A is preferable - correct? Or we have another ground for eliminating B?

What is the difference btw THAT and WHAT - I have always thought that the first one is preferable in GMAT. Please explain.

Thank you in advance.

Regard as is the correct idiom. Considering this we are only left with option A and D.
D is awkward . Left with A= Answer.

Thanks

Simple way of looking at it is that B is extremely wordy and confusing. It is unidiomatic too.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)
